Offering year-round racing and sheltered waters, Cobb’s Quay is an excellent base with the Solent lying to the east and easy routes to the likes of the quaint Victorian town of Swanage and the beautiful Worbarrow Bay, which is close to Lulworth.
It is also only a short stretch from Brownsea Island, which really is the perfect place to drop your anchor. Spend the day relaxing with a book, kayaking with the kids and friends or just spending time identifying the abundance of fish and wildlife both in the clear waters surrounding and on the island.
From the marina, you can also travel further west which opens up extensive opportunities for weekend cruising to the unspoilt waters of Torbay. For longer distance cruise destinations of a week or more, France, the Channel Islands or the West Country are all within reach and offer plenty of scope for exploring.
What’s more, MDL berth holders can take advantage of the company’s Freedom Berthing package, which gives complimentary stays at all of MDL’s marinas in the UK, Spain and Italy.
The cruising network is extended even further to the northwest coast of France, with more than 100 marinas to choose from, all the way from Saint Valery on the shores of Normandy to Port Médoc in the Gironde.
The Freedom Berthing package is used extensively by MDL’s 7,000 berth holders each year. Many boaters have spent weeks and even months exploring the French coast or just hopping around the marinas across the south of England.
Customers also benefit from an on-site restaurant, Cobb’s Quay Yacht Club, which is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, seven days a week, serving up a range of dishes based on fresh local and seasonal produce in a stylish, friendly environment.
However the culinary options do not end there, with Poole Quay and its huge array of restaurants including Italian Gossip and Banana Wharf a short journey away. Both offer spectacular harbour views and great menu choices.
There are also a number of deli’s and food stalls, including some legendary fish and chips, as well as plenty of places to enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the comings and goings in the harbour.
THINGS TO DO
Offering a vibrant social scene, the marina plays an important part in the local community. The team holds a number of fundraising events to raise money for worthy causes, such as the popular annual fishing competition that is run by the manager of Cobb’s Quay Marina, Dave Wilson.
Now in its eighth year, the Open Species Fishing Competition is a fantastic family event that raises money for UK sailing rehabilitation charity Heroes on the Water.
Cobb’s Quay Marina also benefits from a vibrant and social Berth Holders Association which runs a number of events each year. There is also the renowned Trolley of Treats that often makes a weekly appearance at the marina and is always around for special occasions delivering hot and cold drinks, chocolate treats and themed goodies for Valentine’s, Halloween, Christmas and more.
