British Marine and British Marine Scotland has welcomed an action plan to increase the value of Scotland’s marine tourism industry by nearly £100 million.
The Marine Tourism Strategy Action Plan could increase the value of the industry from £360m to £450m by 2020. It also aims to increase the value of sailing tourism from £101m to £145m in the next five years.
The Marine Tourism Symposium took place with British Marine Chief Executive, Howard Pridding, taking part in a panel session at the event to represent member companies in Scotland. The Symposium is launching the action plan that will implement the Scottish Government’s Awakening the Giant marine tourism strategy and the key role that marine businesses now need to play. The strategy was launched earlier this year to put the plans for expansion into practice.
Outlining the potential and opportunity to grow Scotland’s revenue by enhancing the world-class marine tourism destination, it concentrates on three key themes: “Providing Authentic Experiences”, “Improving the Customer Journey” and “Building our Capabilities”.
Howard Pridding, Chief Executive of British Marine, commented: “British Marine Scotland played a lead role in the development of the strategy and now member companies must act by getting involved. A great collaboration has taken place to build strong relationships with Government, local authorities and other strategic partners. With the Scottish Government looking favourably on boating tourism in Scotland, our members must not hesitate to seize this opportunity and progress the strategy forward.”
