Brighton Yacht Club is offering Brighton Marina boat owners and their crews the chance to take part in a ‘Club Class’. This is a taster course of inshore yacht racing for both novice and improver sailors.
The course combines practical sessions afloat, supported by shore-based sessions at the club. Each course is held over five consecutive Saturday mornings, from 8.45am to 2.00pm and the start date of the next series is 21st March 2015.
By the end of Club Class, participants will have experienced a brief introduction to racing and gained an appreciation of crew organisation and coordination, basic racing rules and sailing manoeuvres, as well as essential rope work and an understanding of meteorological and tidal information, race tactics and course planning.
The skippers involved are all experienced amateur volunteers from the Yacht Club and yachts are provided by other members for participants to use. Those completing the Club Class will be encouraged to extend their membership and join one of the yachts racing regularly out of Brighton Marina.
The fee for taking part in the taster course is £169.00 (£99 student/concessions) and includes six months’ club membership and full access to the Club bar/restaurant and social activities.
