If your children have always fancied learning something different in the great outdoors now is the get them into the wonderful sport of sailing.
Grafham Flyers OnBoard Sailing Club runs on alternate Saturdays through the summer months up until October. The OnBoard Club was set up by the RYA as a scheme to get young people into the sport of sailing ten years ago, ready to inspire them for London 2012.
The scheme has grown from strength to strength not only at Grafham Water Centre, but all over the UK. Gordon Baines, who runs the OnBoard Scheme at Grafham Water Centre, took over the reins of the club six years ago and has grown the club into not just a taster sailing club but has joined forces with the Cambridgeshire Schools Youth Sailing Association. This enables young sailors to go off and visit other Cambridgeshire Sailing Clubs as part of the Cambridgeshire Youth League, along with attending the National Sailing School Association yearly regatta.
The group are now winning trophies at various events, and last year finished second overall in the Youth League events,.
This summer is an extremely busy time for the Grafham OnBoarders with various events including a 24 hour sail in aid of the Ellen McCarthur Cancer Trust.
