Although the berths at Southampton’s port are usually filled with cruise liners, container ships and tugboats, a more unusual vessel has also paid a visit. The 144ft Australian tall ship, Young Endeavour berthed in Southampton before heading to Lowestoft, where she was built. From there, she will head to the North Sea to participate in tall ship festivals and races.
The ship was given to Australia as a bicentennial gift in 1988. Since then the Young Endeavour has been in service as part of a youth scheme that has taken over 11,000 young Australians on sailing adventures.
This is Young Endeavour’s fifth passage in a round the world journey that began in Sydney on 22 December 2014. The ship has so far visited Cape Horn in Chile, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Cadiz in Spain, Gallipoli and Canakkale in Turkey.
