The RYA Dinghy Show, in association with Suzuki and Yachts & Yachting, is the only place to be over the weekend of 2-3 March if you’re into dinghy sailing or are thinking about taking to the water for the first time.
The event showcases all the very best that the dinghy sailing world has to offer, from kit, boats and gear, to expert analysis and insight on the Main Stage, and top tips from some of dinghy sailing’s leading experts and coaches in the Coaching Area.
Held at the magnificent Alexandra Palace, London, it is the only show in the world dedicated to dinghy sailing, with hundreds of sailing clubs, classes and associations, chandlers and boat builders and a whole host of exhibitors, all under one roof.
Each year the show attracts new visitors, cutting-edge boats and kit and remains fresh and exciting; whilst maintaining all the original charm and spirit of the very first shows back in the 1950s.
So what can you expect from the show in 2013?
If you’ve been inspired to get into sailing by Team GB’s sailors at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, then the RYA Dinghy Show has everything you need to get started. The ‘New to Sailing’ area is a must visit for anyone looking to take their first steps into dinghy sailing.
Talk to the ‘getting started’ team about the best boats to get started in, what kind of kit you’ll need, how the whole family can get involved, where you can go to learn and where your nearest clubs and sailing facilities are.
You can even pick up some of the basics before you get afloat at the beginners’ coaching session, where RYA Instructors will explain the basic points of sailing, wind direction, parts of the boat, steering and much more.
50 years on
From its humble beginnings as a televised DIY project to the modern day dinghies of all shapes and sizes the show will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Mirror dinghy, with a stunning display of Mirror dinghies throughout the ages and what is sure to be a fun and insightful main stage talk on the history of the Mirror dinghy with dinghy historian and All at Sea columnist, David Henshall.
New for 2013 are the Club Clinics. The sessions will provide one to one advice for club and training centre representatives on a whole host of topics including; legal and technical issues, club development and increasing membership, club racing and greening your club. Book your place at www.dinghyshow.org.uk
We also introduce the new and unique RYA Trapeze Wall. Specially designed for the RYA Dinghy Show, it will give visitors the perfect opportunity to try out harnesses and test their trapezing technique under the watchful eyes of the show experts.
