THE OLD FISH MARKET MAKES IT O’FISH’AL AT SEAFEAST

For the first time, Weymouth Harbour businesses Weyfish, Hatch on the Harbour, and Catch at The Old Fish Market will have a dedicated dining zone at SEAFEAST, the Dorset Seafood Festival.

SEAFEAST returns to the Weymouth Peninsula over the weekend of 10 – 11 September, bringing together seafood producers and seafood fans from across the country.  The Old Fish Market zone will offer the ultimate dining experience for those looking for locally caught Weymouth and Dorset seafood.  Set within the walls of The Old Fish Market on Weymouth Harbour, these three businesses are at the heart of the fishing and seafood community in the town.

Within the zone, each business will have its own stand, with ample seating and gazebos in the centre, allowing guests to really take in the Festival at its best.  Weyfish is set to wow the crowds with a wet counter of fish and seafood from its seafood shack, as well as serving lobster rolls and crab sandwiches.  Hatch on the Harbour will serve grilled lobster, scallops and oysters au natural.  Finally, Catch at The Old Harbour will serve small plates, paired with English wines – allowing festival-goers to experience the magic behind the fine dining restaurant.

Owner of Weyfish, Hatch on the Harbour and Catch at The Old Fish Market, Sean Cooper said: “We are excited to offer a true Weymouth seafood experience at this year’s SEAFEAST.  Each of these businesses is part of The Old Fish Market, and although very different, have a true focus on one important element – sustainably sourced, local seafood.  We are very proud of our Weymouth heritage, of the small boats that head out and fish in our local waters. It was important to us that we showcase the very best seafood that Weymouth has to offer.”

When it comes to seafood and sustainability, the businesses at The Old Fish Market have a sustainability ethos at their very core. The kitchens serve what the boats land daily, these boats are small, owner operated, day fishing boats that head out along the south coast and fish in the most sustainable ways possible. These boats use small runs of static nets, pots, rods and lines and they catch what’s on the coastal doorstep. It is this seafood that will be available in The Old Fish Market zone at SEAFEAST.

Laura Avant, Festival Director said: “We are delighted to be working closely with Sean and the team at Weyfish. The ethos of the festival has always been to promote the enjoyment of seafood, and it doesn’t get much more local than the fish counter at Weyfish!  The new zone will offer something for everyone, and we are thrilled they are bringing with them the fish trailer ensuring visitors can take a taste of Weymouth home with them. This partnership is a clear demonstration of the festival’s continued efforts to showcase Weymouth as a top destination for ‘seafoodies’ – highlighting the excellent seafood on offer not just at the festival, but within the town all year round.”
