A team from maritime charity The Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society is set to climb 24 peaks in 24 hours to raise vital funds for a leading seafaring charity.
The Society, a leading provider of housing, residential and nursing care to former seafarers and their dependents, will aim to raise £10,000 for The Seafarers’ Charity in memory of former Estates Manager Richard Condie, who passed away in April.
The Seafarers’ Charity has been supporting seafarers for more than 105 years and was very close to the heart of Richard, who completed the 24 Peaks Challenge three times to raise over £12,000. The team taking on this year’s challenge hope to raise £10,000.
Commander Brian Boxall-Hunt, Chief Executive of Royal Alfred Seafarers’ Society, said: “We are really proud to continue our support for The Seafarers’ Charity through our participation in the 24 Peaks Challenge. It is a cause that was dear to Richard Condie, and we are honoured to carry on his legacy by rallying behind his son, Mike Condie, who has taken up the baton for 2023.
“This year we are entering two teams who will take on 24 peaks in 24 hours, walking and climbing 33 miles and a 13,000 ft ascent. The money raised will provide The Seafarers’ Charity with vital funds, helping those who work at sea and their families.”
