After 10 years at the helm of the Shrimper Owners Association, Trevor Heritage has hung up his sea boots.
The Shrimper 19 is a one-design class for racing and Trevor has played a part in developing and maintaining the rules for Shrimper racing. Trevor has been a Shrimper Owner since 1990 and has been highly active in the promotion of Shrimper sailing, initially in the Solent area and later in his home region of Poole, where he has been a long standing member of the RMYC plus regional SOA secretary, and from 2014 at National and International level.
The SOA has over 600 members across 10 regions in the UK, plus France and the Netherlands which this year hosted the annual International Shrimper Week. The mantle of National Hon. Sec now passes to former Membership Secretary Martin Blake from the Plymouth region, who presented Trevor with a framed photograph of the Falmouth Shrimper fleet at a recent meeting of the SOA National Officers hosted by the RMYC. Martin paid tribute to Trevor’s long and dedicated service to the SOA, which was inaugurated in 1981.
The Association is open to anyone who owns a Cornish Shrimper 19, 21 or 17, and Shrimper events range from local day sails to the Shrimper Open Championships, which is held in Falmouth each year. For more information visit www.shrimperowners.org
