The Unicorn Preservation Society (UPS), custodian of HMS Unicorn, Scotland’s oldest ship in Dundee, and one of the oldest of its type in the world, has announced key changes to its leadership team. Dr Andrew Tibbs has been appointed as Interim Chief Executive, taking over from Matthew Bellhouse Moran who is moving on from his role as Executive Director at this nationally significant maritime heritage organisation.
The appointment comes at a crucial time as the organisation advances Project Safe Haven, an ambitious multi-million-pound initiative to secure HMS Unicorn’s future. Andrew Tibbs brings significant heritage sector experience to the role, having previously served as a UPS Trustee, and his appointment will further strengthen the delivery of Project Safe Haven.
During the transition period, additional support mechanisms have been established, with key Trustees providing enhanced guidance to ensure continuity in the organisation’s vital work. Dr Tibbs will step back from his trustee duties during his tenure as Interim Chief Executive, thus ensuring full transparency and good governance practice.
Matthew Bellhouse Moran, who will be taking on the role of Executive Director at the Scottish Maritime Museum, said: “My time with the Unicorn Preservation Society has been incredibly rewarding. I leave knowing that the Unicorn’s future is in capable hands.”
